On the 21st of February 2017 a treasure hunt was organized across Castelvetrano's streets

Later on, there was the official welcome by the Mayor of Castelvetrano.
In the afternoon, some educational activities were carried out at school. They dealt with green business ideas for Eco-Minded Entrepreneurs.

MOBILITY TO ITALY - ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SELINUNTE

 

On Monday afternoon we visited the Archaeological Park of Selinunte where an educational activity was carried out: 

exploring local natural environment.

Selinunte (/ˌsɛlᵻˈnuːnteɪ/; Ancient Greek: Σελινοῦς, Selinous; Latin: Selinūs) was an ancient Greek city on the south-western coast of Sicily in Italy. It was situated between the valleys of the Belice and Modione rivers. It now lies in the comune Castelvetrano, between the frazioni of Triscina di Selinunte in the west and Marinella di Selinunte in the east. The archaeological site contains five temples centered on an acropolis. Of the five temples, only the Temple of Hera, also known as "Temple E", has been re-erected. At its peak before 409 BC the city may have contained up to 30,000 people, excluding slaves.

MOBILITY TO ITALY

All the foreign delegations arrived on Sunday. 

Students were hosted by Italian families while teachers stayed at Althea Hotel in Castelvetrano.

20 February 2017

On Monday, there was the official welcome of the European partners and their students in the main hall of the school.

After that, all four national anthems were sung by all four nations together.
A video about the previous mobility to Baza, Spain, was presented followed by a school show about environmental issues. 

Students danced, acted,  and the school band played different international songs to make friends and please the audience.

The school show ended with the Aragonese drums to show the Parade called "Corteo di Santa Rita" that best represents the folklore of the territory.

 

At lunch time there was a welcoming buffet with typical Sicilian food.

WORKSHOP ABOUT ITALIAN LEGISLATION/GREEN ECONOMY

On the 8th of February a very interesting workshop about Italian legislation in the field of green economy was held in our school.

The speaker, Mrs Maria Rosaria Giardina from Liceo delle Scienze Umane "G. Gentile", spoke about the most important  Italian laws in the above-mentioned field and gave lots of practical examples and links on how to get a good job and apply for it.

LEARN. ACT. CONNECT!

Natural Spaces is based on three main ideas that act as guidelines and building blocks for the project’s philosophy, objectives and methodology: LEARN. ACT. CONNECT.

It allows to address issues related to biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, ecological footprint and compensation, environmental restoration and communication. 

During three days, in February , a group of students from our school participated in a customized educational program, where they learned about their individual ecological footprint, how to evaluate the environmental quality of outdoor spaces and how to act to protect natural resources.

To move from theory to practice, students took part in field actions such as waste collection,  control of invasive alien species and native tree plantations. together with volunteers from Legambiente Crimiso - Castelvetrano.

Certainly these experiences and the fieldwork will contribute to strengthen their ecological awareness and facilitate their task as eco- ambassadors  in our school and in the territory...
